Tiong Bahru: A Time Capsule of Heritage and Hipster Vibes

Tiong Bahru: A Time Capsule of Heritage and Hipster Vibes

Singapore's a city of contrasts, where gleaming skyscrapers share the skyline with colonial-era shophouses. But few places capture this unique blend quite like Tiong Bahru. This charming neighborhood is a vibrant tapestry of tradition and trendy, a must-visit for any explorer seeking a taste of Singapore's soul.

Step Back in Time:

Tiong Bahru's heart lies in its iconic Art Deco architecture. Rows of pastel-colored shophouses line the streets, their geometric facades whispering tales of a bygone era. Wander through these narrow lanes and soak in the yesteryear charm. Independent bookstores and quirky cafes now occupy these spaces, breathing new life into the historic buildings.

A Foodie's Paradise:

Tiong Bahru is a haven for the adventurous palate. The famed Tiong Bahru Market is a labyrinth of stalls bursting with fresh produce, local delicacies, and hidden culinary gems. Sample aromatic satays or savor a bowl of steaming chicken rice – a true Singaporean experience. Don't miss the chance to grab a cup of kopi, the local coffee, for an authentic energy boost.

Modern Touches:

While Tiong Bahru cherishes its heritage, it also embraces the new. Art galleries showcasing local talent line the streets, while trendy boutiques offer a treasure trove of unique finds. Grab a seat at a sidewalk cafe and watch the world go by, a delightful mix of tradition and contemporary cool.

A Walk in the Park:

For a moment of serenity, head to the Tiong Bahru Park. Lush greenery and vibrant flowerbeds provide a welcome respite from the urban buzz. Take a leisurely stroll, admire the vibrant blooms, or simply relax on a park bench and soak in the neighborhood's captivating atmosphere.

Tiong Bahru is more than just a place; it's an experience. It's a place where history whispers from the walls, where delicious smells waft from hidden corners, and where the past and present create a unique and unforgettable Singaporean charm. So, lace up your walking shoes, grab your camera, and get ready to discover the magic of Tiong Bahru.

This lovely cup of ice-cream from Cold Stone Creamery is called the Mint mint chocolate chocolate chip. It has chocolate chips, brownie and fudge with ice cream as the base. The ingredients are about the same as Chocolate Devotion which I ate earlier. The only difference is the type of ice cream used. The other one used chocolate ice-cream as the base.Maybe the next round I might try the Cookie minister. That one seems to have lots of Oreos in it....to be updated again....

Big Bird From Salad Stop

I ate this 2 days ago. This is called Big Bird from salad stop. I'm not sure why or how they came up with this name. Anyway, this salad has romaine lettuce, roasted turkey, avocado, green apples, celery, grapes with the range dressing. There was something sweet that tasted like cherry in it. I'm not sure what it was but it was nice. I think overall I love all their signature salads. It was good and healthy!

Iron 'wo'man from salad stop.

I had forgotten to update my blog for a while. This is the Iron 'Wo'man from salad stop. It has baby spinach, feta cheese, roated pumpkin, raisins, toasted almonds with the raspberry vinaigrette. The dressing was nice and sweet. It was rich in iron like the name implies. The feta cheese is actually from goat's milk. The cheese was nice, soft and salty. It did cause abit of bloating for awhile but I was ok. It was a great salad.

Chocolate Brownie

I bought this Chocolate Brownie cake from 'Crumbs by Two Blur Guys' and sad to say, this cake was not as fantastic as other brownies that I have eaten. It was hard and dry. Chocolate brownies are supposed to be soft and moist and it should have an oh-la-la feeling when I sink my teeth in this cake. Anyway, the cake was not that wonderful. It can do better though....

The Roll on Sleep Aid

Since I have the time, I will write another review of something I bought recently. This is a roll on sleep aid that I bought from Eu Yang Sang recently. It costs about $16.00 and I was interested in this because I do get insomnia once a while.

To use it, you'll have to roll it on your wrists, temples, side of neck area and under your nose. These are the areas that the essential oil is best absorbed in. The smell is very nice. I think I smell the lavender the most and I love it. The ingredients include sweet almond, lavender, peel oil and flower oil. There are more but I'm too lazy to type everything.

And the verdict....honestly, it didn't put me to sleep every night. There are nights that I still woke up to stare at the ceiling. I have been having insomnia every few days and this has been going on for years. But back to the review, the smell is nice and soothing and I love the smell. This is not a drug. It's just a form of aromatherapy. Buy it for the smell. It does not guarantee a good night's sleep. There you go...take a whiff and enjoy the scent. Mmmm....
